Crossing the divide:
Exploring Mediterranean places across Mediterranean, European and Middle Eastern Anthropology

In line with past and recent calls to broaden the horizons of anthropology in the Mediterranean regions, this MedNet workshop, co-organised with the IDEMEC - Institute of Mediterranean, European, and Comparative Ethnology, aims to provide a space for discussion on the usual disciplinary divisions between the southern, eastern and northern shores of the Mediterranean, in order to question the disciplinary traditions, institutional configurations and foreign policies that shape the practice of anthropology in the Mediterranean. In particular, it will look at how a closer dialogue between these different regional traditions can advance anthropology in and of the Mediterranean.
Dans la lignée des appels anciens et récents à élargir l'horizon de l'anthropologie dans les régions méditerranéennes, cet atelier MedNet, co-organisé par l'IDEMEC/IDEAS (UMR 7307), se veut un espace de réflexion sur les divisions disciplinaires habituelles entre les rivages Sud, Est et Nord de la Méditerranée, afin d'interroger les traditions disciplinaires, les configurations institutionnelles, ainsi que les politiques étrangères qui façonnent l'exercice de l'anthropologie dans la Méditerranée. En particulier, il s'interrogera sur comment un dialogue plus serré entre ces différentes traditions régionales peut faire progresser l'anthropologie dans et de la Méditerranée.
